APRIL 2018

Open Garden at ‘Tall Timbers’ in Piedmont is a chance to visit a private property on Sunday 29th April. This garden commenced development in the mid ’70s, and is an on-going work of love.  Its open twice a year in Spring and Autumn, and the mixture of ornamental autumn foliage and native vegetation provides a wonderful place to visit.

Sunday 29th April – Lardner Park Makers and Foodies Markets.  This is the first of four of these type of markets which is being run by Craft Markets Australia.  This is a cheerful, family friendly market which features 150 stalls.

Some good news – The Warragul and Drouin Gazette has reported that Warragul is to get a second ambulance station which is due to be built on vacant land on the service road in Burke Street.  So, our district will have even better support than previously.

The Food Relief in Warragul is doing a wonderful job to help needy families. Run by volunteers and supported for the past fifteen years by the district’s combined churches throughout the Baw Baw shire, it last year met the needs of 830 individual recipients who received 2,600 packages.    The Food Relief is like a mini supermarket and stocks not only food but essential household items, also selected secondhand, good quality clothing.  Donations are always welcome, and they also receive support from food outlets that have surplus stock, growers in the area and manufacturers which buy a large number of products through the National Foodbank of which the Warragul group is an agency.

MARCH 2018

ROKEBY MARKET – 2nd SATURDAY OF THE MONTH.    The ‘Petting Zoo’ was really loved by the little children.

Saturday 3rd March the Warragul Show will be held in Logan Park (Showgrounds) Warragul. Livestock events – judging of cattle, goats, poultry and birds, and a number of new events too.  There will be camel rides, bubble soccer, alpacas, Ulysses bike riders and mountain boarders.  And the old favourites: showbags, Arts and crafts, cakes, flowers, fruit and vegetable produce, photography, scrapbooking and much more. Fireworks, of course, are a highlight at the end of the day, and on Sunday, the horse events will be held.

Sunday 25th February out at Jindivick, you can visit the iconic Jindivick Flower and Craft Show. Its a great day out. Kids entry free and adults $5.00. Lots of stalls and demonstrations, and lovely home cooked morning and afternoon teas for sale. A real country outing for all the family!

Saturday 24th February gives you the opportunity to visit the Yarragon Market. Always held on the 4th Saturday of the month in the Yarragon Hall, there’s a huge range of hand made knitted goods, craft, wood items, nuts and sweets, plants and fruit and vegetables.

Our local paper ‘The Warragul Gazette’ has the headline “K Mart for Warragul?” I wonder if this will happen, and when? Re zoning needed, however a large new complex would be appreciated by nearly all Warragul and district residents.

Don’t miss calling in on our amazing Warragul Farmers’ Market & Warragul Arts’ Market this Saturday morning, 17th February in Civic Park Warragul.  Dozens and dozens of stalls with everything imaginable available for sale.

Did you know that ‘Warragul’ is an indigenous word for dingo in the local Gurnai Kurnai language and ‘Warragul’ is the name chosen in a local competition to name the  newest dingo pup up at Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort.   ‘Warragul’ joins the resident pup ‘Rowdy’, so if you have allowed a little extra time for your visit to Valley View Cottage, then why not take a drive up to Mt Baw Baw, and you can visit and learn more about these animals and the local environment, or perhaps you could book in and be part of a unique walking tour with the guests who are joined by the dingos on guided tours through the mountain’s scenic and picturesque trails.  What an opportunity!

In February and March LARDNER PARK is the venue for some really great events:
Bridal Expo on Sunday 11th February
Victorian 4WD Show on Sunday 18th February
and the Aussie Open Drone Racing Event from Friday 9th March to Monday 12th March

Victoria has a brand new, re-born theme park! Previously known as Gumbuya Park, it has had millions of dollars spent on it and is now known as Gumbuya World, and is located at 2705 Princes Highway, Tynong North.  Great reports have been received, and we believe you could spend all day in the water park. They have wonderful furry friends to meet (52 species of different animals in a beautiful bushland setting), you can take part in animal feedings and meet furry friends in their Petting Zoo, or you can bring a picnic and just relax under the gum trees. Gumbuya World is a full day’s fun for everyone, and you can find out more details on their website Gumbuya World.

Neerim District Country Show on Sunday 28th January from 10am. You mustn’t miss this as country shows are becoming fewer and fewer. There will be helicopter joy rides, sheep shearing, lawn mower racing, show bags and exhibitions of trade and other amusements. For tickets and more details check out Neerim District Country Show
